Bybit Secures Austrian E-Money License to Expand European Services

Vienna’s Financial Market Authority has granted Bybit Payments GmbH an Electronic Money Institution license, clearing the path for the exchange to integrate fiat payment services into its European platform. This move complements the existing crypto-asset authorization held by its sister entity, Bybit EU GmbH, under MiCAR regulations.

Bybit Secures Austrian E-Money License to Expand European Services

The new regulatory approval allows Bybit to develop a suite of financial tools, including peer-to-peer transfers, open-banking functionality, and merchant payment solutions. By maintaining two distinct legal entities—Bybit Payments GmbH for payment services and Bybit EU GmbH for crypto-asset custody and exchange—the company aims to align its operations with European compliance standards. Managing directors Georg Harer and Bernhard Krick emphasized that this dual-entity structure is fundamental to their strategy for regional growth.

By securing direct control over its payment infrastructure, Bybit intends to reduce its reliance on third-party providers. While the platform currently facilitates crypto-asset services across the European Economic Area, the integration of e-money capabilities marks a shift toward a broader financial ecosystem. Further details regarding specific product rollouts and timelines are expected in the coming months.
