Data Center Surplus Heat to Power Danish Greenhouse Project
In the rural town of Ølgod, a new partnership is bridging the gap between digital infrastructure and agriculture. By channeling surplus heat from atNorth’s DEN02 data center directly into a neighboring greenhouse development, Selected Group aims to cultivate year-round produce while slashing the carbon footprint of Danish food production.
Beyond the environmental gains, the development promises a tangible economic boost for the Ølgod region through job creation and infrastructure investment. Eyjólfur Magnús Kristinsson, CEO of atNorth, described the initiative as a template for responsible digital growth, while Selected Group CEO Peter Nielsen emphasized that the model is designed to be scalable and replicable at other industrial sites. The venture builds on atNorth’s existing energy-sharing efforts, including similar projects already underway in Finland and Sweden.
