Betting on Children: The Rise of Little League Wagering

Offshore sportsbooks are reporting a surge in betting volume on the Little League World Series, a tournament featuring children aged ten to twelve. While regulated U.S. markets largely prohibit wagers on youth sports, offshore platforms are capitalizing on high demand, effectively turning amateur youth games into high-stakes gambling products.

BetOnline, an offshore operator, confirmed that wagering on the event has doubled compared to 2024. Brand manager Dave Mason claimed that certain youth matchups now attract more betting action than professional tennis, golf, or Major League Soccer. While state-regulated platforms avoid these markets, offshore sites operate outside U.S. jurisdiction, ignoring the ethical concerns raised by the organizers.

Little League International has reiterated its firm opposition to the practice, labeling the exploitation of children’s successes and failures for profit as unacceptable. The organization maintains that the tournament should remain a space for learning fundamentals and integrity, rather than a vehicle for financial speculation. Despite the criticism, the financial figures suggest that for offshore bookmakers, the moral objections are secondary to the aggressive growth in consumer demand.
