The certification confirms that Tensor’s engineering processes meet the global gold standard for road vehicle cybersecurity. By securing this validation, the company establishes a foundation for vehicle homologation in over 60 countries, including the European Union, Japan, and South Korea. Unlike cloud-dependent architectures, Tensor’s Robocar utilizes an edge-first design that processes environmental data and biometric authentication natively on the vehicle’s onboard supercomputing stack.

Tensor Secures ISO/SAE 21434 Certification for Robocar Architecture
San Jose-based Tensor Auto has achieved ISO/SAE 21434 certification for its Cybersecurity Management System, passing an independent audit by Applus+ IDIADA with zero non-conformities. This milestone validates the security-by-design framework for the company’s autonomous vehicle technology as it prepares for global regulatory approval under UN R155 standards.

Dr. Jay Xiao, founder and CEO of Tensor, emphasized that the audit results prove their security-by-design processes align with international regulatory expectations. The assessment covered the entire vehicle lifecycle, encompassing threat analysis, supply chain governance, and secure over-the-air update mechanisms. Alejandro Manilla of Applus+ IDIADA noted that the company demonstrated consistent compliance with the standard’s rigorous requirements throughout the evaluation. Beyond its own consumer vehicles, Tensor intends to leverage this certified infrastructure to license its full-stack Physical AI platform to global automakers and Tier-1 suppliers.
