Macao Hosts Global Tourism Economy Forum to Address Industry Resilience

The forum centers on the theme "Crisis • Resilience • Evolution," aiming to establish a blueprint for shared progress in an era of global economic uncertainty. Since its 2012 inception, the event has hosted over 15,500 participants from 88 countries, solidifying its role as a bridge between China and the international community. China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism has now designated the GTEF as a key national strategic platform within its 15th Five-Year Plan, signaling a move toward shaping global tourism governance.

This year’s edition focuses on five core pillars: Resilient Governance, Technology and Innovation, The New Traveller, Culture and Identity, and Sustainable Growth. Spain will participate as the Partner Country, sharing insights on balanced regional development, while Hainan Province serves as the Featured Province to showcase advancements in Free Trade Port policies and visa-free travel. The program integrates "Tourism+" models—such as AI implementation and sports IP—with site visits in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin. By aligning with organizations like UN Tourism and the World Travel & Tourism Council, the forum seeks to move beyond traditional industry boundaries to foster long-term, sustainable cooperation across the Asia-Pacific and European sectors.
