Ken Paxton Blames Trump’s Iran War for Faltering Senate Campaign

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has pointed to President Donald Trump’s unauthorized war in Iran as the primary driver of his campaign's struggles. In a recently leaked recording from a private donor meeting, the Republican Senate nominee cited soaring fuel costs and the ongoing conflict as uncontrollable factors undermining his electoral prospects.

During the meeting, Paxton explicitly linked his campaign's poor polling numbers to economic pressures, noting that diesel prices exceeding $6 per gallon are causing significant voter frustration. When pressed by an attendee about his inability to influence the conflict, Paxton conceded that the federal race is being shaped by decisions made outside his control, admitting he remains largely disconnected from the administration's strategic rationale.

This recording marks the third time in recent weeks that private comments from the candidate have surfaced, complicating his bid against Democratic nominee James Talarico. Previous leaks revealed Paxton’s frustration over campaign messaging being dictated by Washington, as well as his admission that a high-profile Trump convention in Dallas negatively impacted his public standing. Veteran strategist David Axelrod suggested that Paxton’s recurring tendency to deflect blame onto the president’s policies could become a significant liability for the Republican ticket, potentially marking one of Trump’s most regrettable candidate endorsements.
