Las Vegas-based S.A.F.E. Structure Designs is spearheading a pilot program to recover gallium from domestic sources, including gold-mine tailings. The project integrates American manufacturing with advanced systems engineering to create a repeatable model for mineral recovery. By focusing on feedstocks already present within the United States, the company intends to reduce reliance on foreign imports while establishing a robust domestic infrastructure. The Defense Logistics Agency has expressed formal interest in the performance data generated by the upcoming field demonstrations.

Beyond hardware development, the company is partnering with the Nevada System of Higher Education to bridge the gap between academic research and industrial application. This workforce development component aims to create specialized career pathways for students, ensuring the technical expertise required to operate and maintain future recovery systems. Political support for the endeavor spans party lines, drawing endorsements from Governor Joe Lombardo, Lieutenant Governor Stavros Anthony, Senator Carrie Buck, and Representative Dina Titus, all of whom view the initiative as a strategic win for Nevada’s industrial base.
