Theranos Documentary You Can See Everything Defies Box Office Odds

With $15 million pulled in over its opening weekend, You Can See Everything has secured the second-biggest documentary launch in history. Despite a limited release in only 855 theaters, the film—which chronicles the final weeks before Elizabeth Holmes entered prison—is selling out across the country.

The film’s success is a statistical anomaly, particularly when measured against the 3,575-theater reach of the weekend’s top-grossing feature, Street Fighter. Co-directed by Lance Oppenheim and The Rehearsal creator Nathan Fielder, the documentary benefits from rare, intimate access to Holmes and her family. Critics have already embraced the project, awarding it a near-perfect 99% rating on both Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic.

This fervor for the Theranos saga appears to be cannibalizing the market for other tech-focused projects. While Aaron Sorkin’s The Social Reckoning struggled to maintain momentum and Alex Gibney’s four-hour Musk documentary stalled with a meager $306,702 intake, audiences remain fixated on Fielder’s surreal, metatextual portrait of Holmes. For those attempting to catch a screening, the scarcity of available seats in major cities like Manhattan suggests that demand will continue to outpace the current distribution footprint.
