Republic Services Beats Profit Estimates Despite Revenue Miss

Republic Services reported a fourth-quarter net income of $545 million, exceeding analyst expectations for earnings per share even as total revenue fell slightly short of Wall Street forecasts. The waste management giant benefited from core organic growth in its recycling and waste segments, offsetting a minor dip in its environmental solutions business.

Republic Services Beats Profit Estimates Despite Revenue Miss

The company’s net income rose to $1.76 per share, up from $1.63 per share in the same period last year. On an adjusted basis, Republic Services earned $1.76 per share, comfortably ahead of the $1.62 per share projected by analysts polled by FactSet. Total revenue climbed 2.2% to $4.14 billion, though this figure trailed the $4.21 billion anticipated by the market.

Growth Drivers and Segment Performance

The top-line performance was primarily fueled by 2.9% organic growth within the core recycling and waste operations. Strategic acquisitions contributed an additional 1.3% to revenue growth. However, the environmental solutions division saw a 2% decline, a figure that the report states included roughly $50 million from a one-time emergency response project during the year.

Looking ahead, Chief Executive Jon Vander Ark expressed confidence in the company’s ability to navigate a dynamic macroeconomic landscape. Management’s strategy centers on maintaining pricing power to outpace cost inflation while leveraging digital productivity tools. For the full year 2026, Republic Services issued the following guidance:

  • Adjusted earnings per share between $7.20 and $7.28.
  • Total revenue ranging from $17.05 billion to $17.15 billion.
    • Continued investment in strategic acquisitions to drive long-term value.
While the company’s 2026 outlook remains optimistic, its projections sit slightly below Wall Street’s current expectations of $7.30 per share on $17.31 billion in revenue, according to FactSet data.
