GAC Links Automotive Engineering to Global Football Performance

As global football fever hits its peak, Chinese automaker GAC is attempting to bridge the gap between stadium adrenaline and consumer vehicle performance. By aligning its latest model lineup with the tactical demands of the pitch, the manufacturer aims to draw parallels between on-field agility and engine output.

The company is leveraging partnerships with international clubs—including Australia’s Sydney FC, Mexico’s Toluca FC, Brazil’s CR Flamengo, and Colombia’s Millonarios FC—to market its vehicles as embodiments of a champion’s mentality. This branding strategy ties specific car features to the roles of professional players, positioning the GAC EMPOW’s Mega Wave 2.0TGDI engine, which hits 100 km/h in 6.95 seconds, as the automotive equivalent of a striker’s sprint.

Technological specifications are presented as tactical advantages. The AION i60 utilizes L2 driver assistance and adaptive cruise control to mimic the precision of a midfield playmaker, while the AION V’s Magazine Battery 2.0 technology offers a 600 km CLTC range, framed as a player's endurance during a full match. Safety systems also receive the sports-marketing treatment: the GAC S7’s 35,000 N•m/deg torsional rigidity and ten-airbag configuration are likened to a coordinated team defense. Meanwhile, the HYPTEC HT incorporates Bosch’s latest Intelligent Integrated Brake System, marketed as the calm resilience required of a core player under high-pressure scenarios.
