The foundation of the SHĀNG line relies on red sorghum, which undergoes solid-state fermentation to achieve the savory, umami-rich character typical of sauce-aroma baijiu. Following initial distillation and aging in traditional Chinese clay pots, the liquid is transported to Kentucky. There, it undergoes redistillation and maturation in charred American oak, a process designed to harmonize the complex fermentation notes with the structure of Western wood-aging techniques.

SHĀNG Launches Cross-Cultural Spirit Blending Baijiu and Kentucky Whiskey
A new international collaboration is bridging five millennia of Chinese heritage with American distillation expertise, introducing a hybrid category dubbed jiàngxiāng whiskey. The spirit, produced by Maritine Brands, combines red sorghum baijiu from the Chìshuǐ River basin with traditional Kentucky oak-barrel maturation to create a distinct, globally-focused flavor profile.
Maritine Brands, a joint venture between True Essence Foods and Guìzhōu Guótái Shùzhì Liquor Group, is rolling out two initial expressions. The first, SHĀNG Dàn Yǎ, is a 100-proof spirit aged for up to a year, emphasizing the depth of the baijiu base. The second, East + West Kentucky Blend, is a 92-proof offering that integrates a proprietary American red sorghum whiskey for a softer, caramel-forward profile. Both products become available for online pre-order on June 15, with prices ranging from $45.99 to $64.99 for 500mL bottles.
