The June 10 presentation featured Secretary of the Army Daniel P. Driscoll and Sergeant Major of the Army Michael R. Weimer accepting the firearms from SIG SAUER executives. For Bobby Cox, a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel and the company’s Chief Government Affairs Officer, the gift serves as a tangible expression of gratitude for those currently serving in uniform.

SIG SAUER Marks U.S. Army's 250th Anniversary with Commemorative M17s
Inside the Pentagon, the rhythmic clatter of routine defense business gave way to a ceremonial milestone as SIG SAUER presented specialized M17 pistols to top Army leadership. The gesture marked the 250th anniversary of the United States Army, honoring a quarter-millennium of service with a limited-edition sidearm.

Beyond their ceremonial value, the pistols mirror the technical standards of the military’s official sidearm. These 9mm pieces feature a high-polish DLC-coated stainless steel slide, gold-accented controls, and a commemorative engraving marking the Army’s 1775 inception. While designed as collectible tributes, the weapons maintain the functional specifications of the Modular Handgun System, including compatibility with modern optics. This rare run echoes the significance of the sidearms carried by sentinels at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, grounding the commemorative project in the traditions of Arlington National Cemetery.
