The production work will primarily take place at Castelion’s Project Ranger campus in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, with additional support from the company’s Torrance, California headquarters. This contract follows a $250 million investment in the New Mexico manufacturing site, which was purpose-built to facilitate industrial-rate output for hypersonic technology.

U.S. Navy Orders 50 Blackbeard Hypersonic Prototypes from Castelion
The U.S. Navy has issued a $23.4 million contract to Castelion for 50 Blackbeard hypersonic weapon prototypes, signaling a shift from experimental flight testing to early operational capability. This firm-fixed-price order includes the specialized storage and shipping containers required to field the low-cost strike systems by 2027.

Castelion CEO Bryon Hargis stated that the Blackbeard system was engineered specifically to support conventional deterrence through affordable, scalable production. By moving toward early operational use, the Navy aims to accelerate the integration of high-speed strike capabilities across its fleet. Previous platform integration contracts with both the Army and Navy have paved the way for this procurement milestone, marking a transition toward sustained, large-scale manufacturing for the defense sector.
