The new facility, currently operating within the university's W.R. Banks Building, provides vital screening resources and community outreach. While breast cancer prevention remains the primary focus, the clinic also delivers broader medical services, including blood pressure, cholesterol, and A1C screenings, alongside dermatology care and medication management. Plans are already in motion to relocate the clinic to the university’s forthcoming Community Health Center by 2027.

Dr. Ruth J. Simmons Establishes Breast Cancer Endowment at TSU
To honor the memory of her late sister, educator Dr. Ruth J. Simmons has launched the Nora B. Wilson Endowment and Health Clinic at Texas Southern University. The initiative aims to bolster breast cancer prevention and early detection efforts across nine Southeast Texas counties, addressing critical health disparities in the region.
President J.W. Crawford III emphasized the university’s commitment to stewarding this gift, which serves as both a memorial to Nora B. Wilson and a functional hub for health equity. The endowment will support research, student and faculty involvement in community health programs, and expanded educational access. For the university, the partnership reinforces its mission as a special-purpose institution dedicated to serving underserved urban populations through targeted research and public health initiatives.
