MiniPay Launches Visa Debit Card to Bridge Stablecoins and Retail

Users of Opera’s MiniPay wallet can now spend stablecoin balances at 175 million merchant locations worldwide. The new digital Visa debit card, powered by Gnosis Pay, integrates directly with Apple Pay and Google Pay, allowing individuals in emerging markets to bypass traditional banking hurdles for everyday global commerce.

MiniPay Launches Visa Debit Card to Bridge Stablecoins and Retail

The initiative targets high-growth regions across Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia, where digital dollars have become a primary store of value. By leveraging Gnosis Pay infrastructure, the card allows merchants to receive local currency settlements without requiring any technical knowledge of blockchain or crypto-assets. This effectively bridges the gap between decentralized savings and the established global payment network.

Jørgen Arnesen, EVP Mobile at Opera, stated that the card marks a shift from viewing stablecoins as mere assets to using them as functional currency. The product complements MiniPay’s existing integrations with local payment rails like Mpesa and Mercado Pago. Beyond standard spending, the program introduces a cashback system rewarding users with digital assets such as USDC, USDT, and Tether Gold. Monavate handles the regulatory card-issuing requirements, while the platform maintains a low-fee structure, eliminating monthly or annual costs for the end user.
