Reach Systems Lands NASA Order for Artemis Ground Testing Hardware

NASA has tapped Nanaimo-based Reach Systems to supply a custom winch for the Artemis program. The specialized hardware, a tailored version of the company’s CROC XL tether management system, will be deployed in ground-based testing to streamline electrical cable installation for lunar-related infrastructure development.

Reach Systems Lands NASA Order for Artemis Ground Testing Hardware

The Nanaimo, British Columbia firm specializes in engineering equipment for environments where precise control is non-negotiable. For this project, Reach Systems modified its standard CROC XL unit to allow NASA engineers to integrate their own motor specifications. The system is designed to manage the deployment of power and data cables, a critical bottleneck in advanced field robotics and space-adjacent testing.

Colin Dobell, CEO of Reach Systems, noted that the order highlights the broader utility of their technology beyond subsea or marine applications. According to Dobell, the often-overlooked mechanics of cable deployment are central to mission success, as reliable payout and recovery become increasingly complex as operational capabilities grow. While the hardware may appear simple, the engineering required for integration and connectivity remains a vital component of modern technical infrastructure. Reach Systems is a subsidiary of NameSilo Technologies Corp., which focuses on investing in undervalued companies across diverse sectors.
