The gathering brought together 152 attendees at McCormick Field to assemble kits containing sleeping bags, hygiene products, cooling towels, and hand-crank flashlights. Each pack also included handwritten notes of encouragement, adding a personal touch to the logistical effort. These supplies are now being channeled through Veterans Services of the Carolinas to assist those experiencing housing insecurity throughout the region.

Asheville Businesses Rally to Secure Grant Funding for Homeless Veterans
Two hundred backpacks filled with essential survival gear now sit ready for distribution to unsheltered veterans across Western North Carolina. The inaugural Operation Packs for Patriots event, held June 3 at the Best Buy Metals Pavilion, transformed a local baseball outing into a successful mission to unlock critical grant match funding for ABCCM.

Beyond the immediate aid, the event achieved a strategic financial milestone for the Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry. By mobilizing local volunteers, the organizers helped the nonprofit surpass its required hours for the remainder of the year, effectively triggering the release of vital grant match dollars. Leland Decker of Southeastern Tile Connection, which co-hosted the event alongside Best Buy Metals and Sam's Club of Asheville, noted that the turnout and community commitment provided resources that far exceeded initial projections.
