The project utilizes three of Hanwha’s integrally geared centrifugal compressors, specifically engineered with variable frequency drive technology to navigate the volatile pipeline pressure fluctuations common across the PJM region. By automatically adjusting to these seasonal shifts, the equipment ensures the steady, uninterrupted output required for one of the largest electricity markets in the United States.

Hanwha Power Enters U.S. Market with 950MW Trumbull Energy Center
In Trumbull County, Ohio, the 950MW Trumbull Energy Center began operations this June, filling the regional power gap left by retired coal-fired plants. The facility’s launch marks a strategic entry for Hanwha Power, which successfully commissioned its proprietary fuel gas compression technology within the massive PJM Interconnection wholesale grid.

Beyond the initial hardware installation, Hanwha Power has locked in a nine-year long-term service agreement to oversee capital spare parts and maintenance across three major overhaul cycles. The company is positioning its Houston service center as the primary hub for this lifecycle management, aiming to establish a permanent aftermarket footprint in North America. Trumbull Asset Management CEO Joo Mong Choi noted that the commissioning serves as a benchmark for the reliability of Korean power generation technology, while Hanwha CCO Prakash Nair emphasized that the dual-contract structure provides a stable foundation for the firm’s continued expansion into the U.S. energy sector.
