Microsoft Raises Xbox Prices Amid Global Hardware Surge

Starting August 1, Microsoft will implement worldwide price hikes for its Xbox console lineup, with some models seeing increases of up to $150. The decision follows a broader industry trend of rising hardware costs, mirroring recent adjustments by Apple and reflecting the deepening impact of the global AI infrastructure boom.

The price adjustments are significant: the 512GB Xbox Series S will climb to $499, while the 1TB version rises to $599. The Xbox Series X 1TB Digital and Disc models will reach $750 and $800, respectively. Microsoft confirmed it is also discontinuing the 2TB console model entirely. These hikes are largely attributed to the skyrocketing cost of memory and storage chips, which the company claims are now 2.5 times more expensive than previous levels. Projections suggest these component costs could double again by the fall of 2027.

This shift mirrors the strategy adopted by Sony, which previously raised the price of the PS5 digital edition to $599. To mitigate the impact, Microsoft is promoting financing incentives, including expanded 'Buy Now, Pay Later' programs and 12-month 0% APR options for Amazon shoppers. The company also stated it is developing programs to offer refurbished, previously played consoles at more accessible price points as it navigates a hardware market constrained by unprecedented demand for AI-grade storage.
