Shawn Patrick O'Brien Honored for Four Decades in Pharma Leadership

O'Brien recently concluded his time as chief executive officer and managing director of Raleigh-based Mayne Pharma, where he focused on supply chain optimization and commercialization within the women's health and dermatology sectors. His professional trajectory includes five separate chief executive officer appointments, including positions at Cipher Pharmaceuticals, Altherx Inc., Profectus BioSciences, and Solstice Neurosciences.

His track record is anchored by a 17-year tenure at AstraZeneca, where he oversaw the design and launch of eight brands that each eclipsed $1 billion in annual sales. Among his most significant achievements, O'Brien directed the relaunch of Seroquel, a strategic move that grew revenue from $110 million to $5.6 billion. Beyond his executive duties, he has maintained a long-standing commitment to industry governance, currently serving as chair of SFA Therapeutics and Key BioPharma Partners.
