The litigation, Leo Woytach, et al. v. Drug & Alcohol Treatment Services, Inc., stems from a security incident occurring around October 5, 2024, which the defendant publicly disclosed two months later. While plaintiffs allege the company failed to implement adequate data security, DATS denies all liability and wrongdoing. The court-approved settlement covers individuals in the United States who received breach notifications from the provider, specifically those contacted on or around May 2, 2025.

Patients of Drug & Alcohol Treatment Services Offered Settlement Payouts
A class action settlement has been reached following a 2024 data breach at Drug & Alcohol Treatment Services, Inc. (DATS), potentially impacting patients whose protected health information was exposed. The deal offers cash reimbursement for out-of-pocket losses and identity theft protection for those affected by the unauthorized system access.

Eligible class members can pursue one of two cash options: reimbursement of up to $5,000 for documented losses traceable to the breach, or a pro-rata alternate cash payment. Additionally, claimants may receive one year of medical identity theft protection through CyEx Medical Shield. To participate, individuals must submit a claim form online or by mail, postmarked no later than September 24, 2026. Those wishing to opt out or object to the terms must file their requests by August 25, 2026. Judge Terrence R. Nealon of the Lackawanna County Court of Common Pleas is scheduled to hold a final approval hearing on November 24, 2026.
