Hidden iOS 27 code hints at imminent foldable iPhone

References discovered within the iOS 27 developer beta suggest Apple is preparing to enter the foldable market. Research into hidden files uncovered specific parameters for display states and mechanical angles, signaling that the company’s upcoming hardware lineup may finally include a folding device alongside the standard September release cycle.

Hidden iOS 27 code hints at imminent foldable iPhone

The developer beta, unveiled at Monday’s WWDC keynote, contains strings such as "foldState," "angleDegrees," and "MGGetLogicalDeviceDisplayCount." These technical markers indicate the operating system is now configured to track device orientation and display counts, functionality typically reserved for hardware with multiple screens or hinges. While competitors like Samsung have dominated the foldable category for over five years, Apple’s entry faces significant design hurdles, specifically regarding device thickness.

To remain competitive, Apple must navigate the trade-off between screen real estate and portability. By leveraging the engineering seen in the 5.6-millimeter-thick iPhone Air, a dual-screen foldable could theoretically reach a total depth of 11.2 millimeters. This measurement would place the device in direct competition with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7, potentially offering a more streamlined profile than many existing market alternatives.
